Phoebe Tucker

Democratic Candidate for Vermont House of Representatives in the Rutland-Windsor District

What do you believe is the role of state government, if any, in ensuring that everyone living in Vermont has the food they need to thrive?

The government needs to effectively utilize all possible resources to ensure that everyone, regardless of identity or background, has consistent and reliable access to adequate amounts of nourishing, whole, and culturally relevant food.

What would be your policy priorities to move Vermont toward food security for all?

I wholeheartedly support programs such as Crop Cash, Farm Share, SNAP, Vermonters Feeding Vermonters, and the Universal School Meals program. I would focus on policies that push forward systems of mutual aid and community resiliency.

What do you believe are the root causes of hunger, and what should the state do to address those underlying factors?

How would you help strengthen the state’s agriculture and food economy to ensure Vermont farms can continue to grow the food we all need?

NOFA-VT is an organization already extremely dedicated to this task, so I would look to them for guidance around resource allocation, economic and organizational development, and suggestions for policy improvements in this field.
