Join our board

Hunger Free Vermont has a committed Board of Directors who work to further our mission of ending the injustice of hunger for everyone in Vermont. We prioritize the people most affected by hunger to make permanent systemic change.

We are actively recruiting three to four board members to begin terms in January 2027.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Vermont, Hunger Free Vermont’s board, made up of Vermont community members, is legally responsible for the actions and well-being of the organization.

Our volunteer board members commit an average of 40 to 65 hours to board work each year, both in person and remotely, to help ensure the long-term viability and success of the organization and its staff.

We seek to have board members with diverse lived and professional experiences. That means we’re looking for people who have a broad range of perspectives, such as (but not limited to):

  • People from a variety of regions in Vermont

  • Those who are diverse in their racial, ethnic, gender, class, religious, and political identities

  • Individuals with a variety of professional backgrounds, such as finance, public health, policy, legal, health care, nonprofit leadership, and more

  • People with previous lived experience of hunger and food insecurity, and/or experience working with or in communities impacted by hunger and food insecurity

Our board members are passionate about ending hunger in Vermont through a wide variety of strategies, including policy advocacy, community engagement, public education, community-centric fundraising, and support for government nutrition programs. They are also people who like to work collaboratively, learn about new issues, and think creatively about new challenges and opportunities.

Does that sound like you? Then we invite you to explore joining our board!

Learn more about the role and its responsibilities here. If you’re interested in becoming a board member, the first step in our recruitment process is to email a statement of interest to our executive director at ahorton@hungerfreevt.org.
