David Tucker
Democratic Candidate for Vermont House of Representatives in the Caledonia-1 District
What do you believe is the role of state government, if any, in ensuring that everyone living in Vermont has the food they need to thrive?
State govt should support all local efforts to provide food assistance to all who need it. In addition, the state should continue to support federally funded food programs and advocate for increased funding to meet growing needs
What would be your policy priorities to move Vermont toward food security for all?
Explore opportunities to provide more locally produced foods to our feeding programs.
What do you believe are the root causes of hunger, and what should the state do to address those underlying factors?
Poverty leads to hunger. We need to continue and expand supports to local organizations aimed at fighting poverty and building economic opportunities in our communities
How would you help strengthen the state’s agriculture and food economy to ensure Vermont farms can continue to grow the food we all need?
The state can lead the way in connecting local farmers with school feeding programs, senior meal site, hospitals, nursing homes, etc and should examine options for subsidizing food purchases from local farms
