The Learning Kitchen
We believe high-impact nutrition and cooking education should be integrated into the lives of all Vermonters. Hunger Free Vermont's The Learning Kitchen empowers Vermonters to shop for and prepare healthy meals on small budgets.
We help schools and community groups offer essential nutrition education and cooking classes across the state.
The Learning Kitchen began in 2010 and is available for middle-school youth, young adults, and adults in low-income areas and at sites that serve low-income populations. In a series of six lessons, participants engage in hands-on cooking and nutrition education activities that focus on balancing and planning meals, stretching food dollars to maximize nutrition, shopping strategies and cooking techniques. Classes are taught by area chefs and trained nutrition educators.
Nutrition education works!
Graduates of The Learning Kitchen are preparing more meals from scratch; learning how best to budget food dollars and plan healthier meals; and consuming more fruits, vegetables, grains, and calcium-rich foods.

UPDATE: We're currently in the process of transitioning this portion of our site to a Nutrition Education Hub. We are no longer offering funding for the Learning Kitchen, however all curriculum materials are now publicly accessible in the Learning Kitchen Resource Hub. The new Nutrition Education hub will include a list of potential funding opportunities as well as a database of nutrition education resource from external partners. Please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
