Kristen is an AmeriCorps VISTA member serving as Hunger Free Vermont’s Nutrition Education and Direct Market Outreach Coordinator. Through this role she coordinates statewide activities for enhancing food security in Vermont through the development and implementation of The Learning Kitchen. During her year of service, she will also develop and execute a sustainable outreach program to help more SNAP participants use their benefits to access fresh, local food, and participate in related program evaluation analysis and development.
Kristen received her B.S. in both Natural Resource Management and Agriculture and Natural Resources from the University of Delaware, where she focused her studies on food policy and sustainable land management. Kristen’s passion for food justice is rooted in her past experience as Mobile Market Manager for the social service Bright Spot Ventures, where she provided fresh produce to low-income neighborhoods in the city of Wilmington, Delaware. Since university, she continues to expand her knowledge surrounding sustainable food and community-based activism, upholding her belief that there is no such thing as “too many podcasts.”
Kristen is excited to assist in increasing Hunger Free Vermont’s capacity to provide nutrition education opportunities for low-income Vermonters, and is especially grateful that she is able to fight hunger as part of such an inspiring team.
