With support from the Canaday Family Trust, the Hunger Council of the Northeast Kingdom, which spans Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans Counties, was launched on December 11, 2015.

The Co-Chairs of this Hunger Council are:

  • Colleen Moore de Ortiz, School Liason and Public Health Nurse for the Vermont Department of Health, Newport Office

  • Reverend Ed Sunday-Winters, Greensboro United Church of Christ

Most Recent Hunger Council of the Northeast Kingdom Meeting:

The Hunger Council last met on March 8, 2019. The group focused primarily on farmers markets, and was joined by local and statewide experts on markets and market incentive programs. The meeting agenda is available HERE; meeting minutes are available HERE.

Upcoming Hunger Council Meeting:

Our next Hunger Council meeting on May 24 will be focusing on universal school meals in the Northeast Kingdom and Vermont - what’s happening now, what effects are they having in our schools, and what opportunities exist to make universal school meals available to all schools in the state. The Hunger Council will hear from Anore Horton, Hunger Free Vermont’s Executive Director, and review ways to spread information on this work. The draft agenda is available HERE.

All meetings will be held from 10:00 - 12:00 at the Barton Town Hall, 19 Village Square.
