Take the 3SquaresVT Challenge this November 12th- 18th for the week, a day, or a meal!
Every year during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week, Hunger Free Vermont asks Vermonters to build awareness about food insecurity by taking the 3SquaresVT Challenge. The 3SquaresVT Challenge seeks to highlight what it is like to eat on the average 3SquaresVT benefit—approximately $37 a week for a single person (or $5.29 per day/ $1.76 per meal).
Hunger in Vermont is both wide-reaching and complex, with 1 in 10 Vermonters struggling to afford enough food, and nearly 78,000 Vermonters receiving 3SquaresVT benefits. The purpose of the Challenge is not to emulate the reality of food insecurity for Vermonters, because every family’s situation is different, but to instead draw attention to the experience of living on a strict food budget and how that may or may not change your daily life both physically and mentally.
Registered participants will receive emails throughout the week encouraging them to reflect on their experience and the importance of 3SquaresVT, and to take action and help fight food insecurity in their community.
Please spread the word about the challenge and invite your colleagues, networks, family, and friends to join you! If you have specific questions about the Challenge, email Phil Morin at firstname.lastname@example.org
