Hunger Free Vermont, formerly the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, is an education and advocacy organization with the mission to end the injustice of hunger and malnutrition for all Vermonters. Incorporated in 1993, we are a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing nutrition education and expanding access to nutrition programs that nourish Vermont’s children, families, and communities.

Our 16-member staff leads a comprehensive and effective approach to addressing hunger in our state. Our team conducts outreach and education on the following nutrition programs:
- School Meal Expansion assists schools in establishing and expanding school breakfast and lunch programs, which provide regular sources of nutrition for school age children.
- 3SquaresVT Outreach improves access to and participation in 3SquaresVT (formerly the Food Stamp Program), one of the most reliable, consistent and dignified means to prevent hunger.
- Out-of-School Time Nutrition establishes and expands opportunities for children to eat nutritious snacks and meals after school hours and during the summer months.
- Early Childhood Nutrition Outreach helps child care centers provide healthful meals through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Additionally, we implement advocacy and public education efforts including:
- The Learning Kitchen (formerly Cooking for Life) empowers low-income Vermonters to make healthy choices through nutrition education, emphasizing the importance of regular physical activity, and improving cooking skills.
- Community Hunger Project allows us to address hunger at the local level by creating county-centric Hunger Councils that mobilize community leaders to end hunger in their communities.
- Health Professionals Hunger Education Project educates health professional, via an online accredited tutorial, about the effects of hunger on children and families and provides tools for screening and intervention.
